March Madness: one of the most talked about basketball tournaments in the United States. The NCAA men’s basketball tournament that gets people roaring with excitement and anticipation. This event is getting a lot of attention due to the fact we have not had the chance to embrace anything like it within the past year due to a global pandemic. The NCAA men’s basketball tournament saw its first cancellation in history in 2020 due to worries about the spread of COVID-19. The tournament has been an ongoing event since 1939.

Looking a little deeper into this “madness” we see there are multiple things that go into play when trying to get this event going. The hotels, transportation, practice areas, weight rooms, and of course, the technology all need to be put into place to make this tournament happen. The 2021 tournament is being held in our home state as Hoola Technology: Indiana. The Indiana Convention Center will be turned into a complete activity center starting on March 18, 2021.

Before the NCAA got too overwhelmed trying to decide on the best 68 college basketball teams, they were putting together this bracket with just a pencil and paper. In 2001 they worked up enough nerve to hire their first software developer. With the software that has been installed they are able to share this bracket with the world including the seeding in seconds rather than spending hours staring into a white piece of paper. Looking into the software a little deeper, it is easy to see how far technology has come in the past 82 years. Technology in sporting events is continuing to develop and will continue to grow as technology advances.

This past week Hoola Technology has also been involved in the NCAA men’s tournament in which we have filled out brackets. We have included a few others in our office with a grand winner to be revealed and rewarded at the end of the tournament in April. The boss man, Brad, is not the most knowledgeable in men’s basketball, but is very confident he has the best bracket in the tournament. The future can only tell us if that seems to be true.
